Text: BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES, LASH YOURSELF DOWN AND PREPARE TO ENTER LIGHTWARP..... At the next Special Interest Group (SIG) meeting we're going to take off into a realm of mystery for most of us... digitizing graphic images. You've all heard about the Thunderscan digitizer... well, the Abaton Scan 300 blows the Thunderscan out of the water. The folks of Compuset (a laser printing/graphics design business in Eureka) have graciously agreed to hold the next SIG meeting at their premises at 517 3rd St., Suite 40 (3rd Floor - Carson Bldg.) at 7 PM on Monday night, March 16th. Without sounding totally repetitive, graphics are definitely IN and the Mac is the machine to really exploit graphics to their full potential. With Pagemaker (and other new layout programs) it's possible to do virtually anything you can imagine integrating graphic images & text. The folks at Compuset have been working within this arena for the past six months or so and will share their expertise for the SIG. As examples of just what they can do, the cartoon above was digitized and the line drawing of the sailboat was also a digitized image. Bring your imaginations and pictures to the next meeting and you'll see the potential for this topic. As usual, we will be taking sign-ups for the SIG at the next SMUG meeting... call me if you want to attend the SIG but can't be at the SMUG meeting. Until then, happy computing... Larry Goldberg. "At the next SIG meeting I will be talking about the use and applications of digitizers - specifically the Abaton Scan 300 and the C-Scan software. I will cover subjects like type of files created, printing resolution of those files, compatibility (or incompatibility as the case may be) with various software, image area limitations, system requirements, halftone vs. line art digitizing, setting adjustments, tools, and anything else I can think of between now and then. There will be an Abaton Scan 300 for demonstration so bring any photos or line art you'd like digitized (must be on an 8 1/2 X 11" piece of paper or smaller). I'll be glad to answer any questions you may have concerning digitizing in general and the Abaton in specific. See you there!" Rick Siegfried, Compuset
