Text: "Happy First Birthday SMUGgler's" The server continues to churn along without major problems, and it's driving me crazy! I still have the feeling that any time I walk in and look at it, it could be down for the count again. Knock on wood, wish on a star, walk on eggs... This month marks the first anniversary of SMUGgler's BBS. The efforts of many people have made SMUGgler's a success (in my ever-so-humble opinion), and it has contributed to the amazing growth of SMUG. Fifteen new members were added in May, and old members contue to renew their memberships. We have exceeded the 200 Member Milestone, and are proceeding into the Great Beyond. At our next meeting we'll be presenting a certificate for a free membership to the winner of the "SMUGgler's Start" contest; also, the 200th member will be introduced and gifts will be presented , so if you think you might be #200, by all means show up at the June meeting. Besides, I want to see who's sending in all these checks I keep taking to the bank. In general, Tuesday evening seems to have taken over from Monday as the night of highest online activity on SMUGgler's. We tapered off a tad from last month, and had only one day exceeding 200 logins. Maybe the students finally had to get busy, and didn't spend as much time in the throes of OneNet controversies. The TCETP gang (in the Tele-School conference) got a shot in the arm in the last month, in the form of SMUG member Joyce Farruggia. Joyce jumped in and helped get the team coordinated and the UGCAP grant proposal written. I had some doubts when I attended the April 28th meeting that it would happen, but by golly, they did it! Congratulations on getting the paper out the door, and best of luck on your proposal. Several new conferences were added to SMUGgler's in the last month. Most of them came from NET, in the form of OneNet conferences. We're trying out Urban Legends, Conspiracies and Beyond, and Mac Programming. Why did we get those particular conferences? Because that's what we were given. Now hush, or you'll go to bed without Tech Support. One additional conference called Current Projects was added to the Tele-School Project area for the grant proposal activities future hot projects. We're still running with over 90% of SMUG members having established their accounts on SMUGgler's, but I've loaned out modems in the last month to folks who haven't logged on yet. If you're one of those folks, give me (Steve) a call at 445-3454, after 4:00 PM on weekdays, or from 9 AM - 9 PM weekends, and I'll help you get the modems hooked up and running. Remember, those modems are on loan, so you should get some use out of them before they have to be returned. Don't be shy, we like to help. We continue to offer loaner modems to other SMUG member who have not tried SMUGgler's yet. We'll help you get the hardware and software installed, and show you around the system. Most SMUG stuff happens online these days, so give it a try and you'll see why others are using it daily. For more information, call Casey at 442-3520, or me at 445-3454. See you online! - Steve
