17 of the most popular Internet Relay Chat channels

Internet Relay Chat is the citizens band of the Internet, a service with which folks can meet and discuss -- well, anything. Conversation is grouped into "channels" that can be created on the fly. In order to create this list of the most popular IRC channels, I logged on at various times over several days and searched for the groups with the most users. This list is a sketchy, unscientific grouping of the most popular groups, roughly in order of popularity.
