6.17. How do I uncompress a UNIX compressed file?

Just type uncompress filename.Z. The program will create an uncompressed version of the file (with the same name, sans the .Z extension) and delete the compressed version.

Note: You didn't ask, but in case you were wondering, you can compress a file by typing compress filename. The program will compress your file, add the .Z extension, and delete the original file. Further, if you type compress filename and it's already compressed, the program is smart enough to figure that out, add the .Z suffix, and uncompress it! Pretty handy, eh?
